Is your mattress toxic?

Did you know…

On average we spend 8 hours per night in our beds, that’s 56 hours per week, and approximately 2, 912 hours a year!! That adds up fast and works out to around 1/3 of our life!! Yet on average we spend the least amount of money on our beds and would rather put it towards a car.

Do you really want to spend one-third of your life on a pile of chemicals?

Conventional beds are loaded with harmful toxic chemicals, man-made petroleum based byproducts that emit VOC’s, carcinogenic flame retardants, and pesticides. Just to name a few. These harmful toxins have been linked to a large list of serious health complications including asthma, allergies, reproductive toxicity, respiratory problems, skin irritations, cancer, and more.

So how can we ensure ourselves and our families are protected against these harmful chemicals?

Our Sleeptek mattresses are a Canadian owned company based in Ottawa, Ontario and have been making healthy mattresses for over 25 years.

Sleeptek mattresses are made from  organic wool, organic cotton and organic latex.

The organic wool  is used in the quilting process. The sheep have grazed only in pastures that are free from pesticides and herbicides. Hot water and soap has been used to wash the wool, so there are no added chemicals in the cleaning process. The wool also keeps 1-2% of the natural lanolin oil which acts as a dust-mite repellent. Wool is naturally absorbent, therm-regulating (keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter) and fire retardant.

The organic cotton is cultivated and hand-picked using traditional methods free of synthetic pesticides, herbicides or defoliants found in most conventional mattresses.

Organic rubber is a renewable resource. The highest quality rubber comes from milk or sap tapped from the Hevea Brasiliensis, grown on Sri Lankan plantations. Sleeptek specializes in fine quality rubber for mattress use. It is an extremely durable, elastic material characterized by its ability to retain its shape and firmness for a long period of time.
